E-mazing Race Rules and Regulations (2014)

Contest Period:
E-mazing Race participants (“Participant(s)”) begin their journey on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 1300 hours (ADT). Participants are encouraged to start from one of our official race lines but are allowed to create their own race from anywhere in North America at contest start time (1300 ADT, September 29, 2014). The E-mazing Race concludes Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1300 hours (PDT) with a finish line at Concord Pacific Properties on Carrall Street (False Creek Display Office) in Vancouver, BC.

Start Locations:
A registered vehicle can start from anywhere in North America. Ceremonial start locations and dates to be held across Canada and the United States (U.S.) are listed below and subject to change. Please check our website www.e-mazingrace.com regularly for further details. We encourage Participants to join other racers at any of these locations for a ribbon cutting departure event with local media. Extra points are given to racers departing from a starting line.

Newfoundland and PEI participants will have the highest bonuses for travelling to the eastern-most starting points. Chargers across those provinces will have higher point values. The Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) is hosting a start line at Yonge-Dundas Square over the lunch hour on September 30^th. The TPA garage charger at Yonge-Dundas will have extra points on 30 September.

Staggered Starts:
All vehicles will be released at 5-minute intervals from the organized start locations. This will be based on a draw – selecting participant numbers out of a hat.

Eligibility: 
The E-Mazing Race Contest (“Contest”) is open to all participants with a plug-in electric powered vehicle (“EV”) capable of charging with a J1772 connector. Plug-In hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will compete in a separate category against other PHEVs (examples include: Chevy Volt, Toyota Prius and Via Motors VTRUX).
Charging Stations: 
Charging at all charging stations is on a first-come-first-serve basis. To reduce bottlenecks, participants driving EVs will have priority over PHEV participants at charging stations. This is critical to keep the event fair and flowing! We thank you for your cooperation.
Safety Above All Else: 
Despite the Contest name, E-mazing Race is NOT a race but rather a rally touring across the continent. We encourage all Participants to operate their vehicles within the confines of the law and observe safe driving practices on public highways. Safety should always come first. E-mazing Race does not condone any reckless or unlawful driving/ behavior, and therefore any sign of such will result in immediate disqualification.

Participant’s Obligations:
It is the Participant’s responsibility to ensure that their vehicle is registered and safe to operate on public highways in all states and provinces in North America. Passing an event technical inspection does not mean the vehicle is legal on public highways. Only the vehicle’s owner and/or operator can determine that, and/or relevant public legal authority.
Proof of insurance and current government registration with displayed current license plates (or “temporary tags”) are required for entry and must be valid in all jurisdictions that the vehicle will be operated in.
Participants are responsible for their own costs and expenses associated with their participation in the Contest.
Participants are responsible for their own smartphone device and the costs associated with its operation in order to use the E-mazing Race App.

Scoring System:
Participants will be judged using a points-based scoring system. Each participant must register their visits to Sun Country Highway EV Charging Stations and collect the most points to win the event.  Charger points are awarded based on location of EV Charger; with “out of the way” and pre-determined locations receiving higher points. Extra points are awarded for start line and finish line participation; sharing the most photos; generating 100+ followers and receiving 100+ likes. Participants will register their location and points with a smartphone using the new E-mazing Race (EMR) App. Participants must take a picture of themselves (“selfie”) in front of each EV charger and post it on EMR App when “checking in” at charger. Smartphone EMR App may also be used to track racers on a map and scoreboard. Scoring will be updated daily on the EMR App and website. Best results will be summarized at Finish Line event.
In the event the participant runs into problems posting, an email with photo can be sent to info@e-mazingrace.com to manually register points. Team name, charger location and serial number must be identified in the email.

Prior to race launch; bonus points will be announced on the E-Mazing Race website for specific locations across Canada – Stay tuned!

Participants may only register once at each host location (1X) during the race to receive points. The photo captures Participant’s unique identity and GPS location as they visit each Sun Country Highway EV Charging Station.

Finish Line:
Vancouver, BC, Saturday November 1, 2014 1:00pm (PDT) – Concord Pacific Vancouver Presentation Centre & Sales Location, 88 Pacific Blvd. on the False Creek Seawall.
Participants are not required to cross the finish line to participate; however, extra points will be given to those who do so.

Prizes: 
Participants who travel the furthest, visit the most Sun Country Highway EV chargers, collect the most bonus points, and accumulate the most overall points, will have the greatest probability of winning the race. Points are awarded for every EV Charger visited as well as bonus points for joining Race activities. Bonus points are given to: Participants who join one of the start lines across the continent; everyone who crosses the finish line; and select host locations (to be identified prior to start date). Secondary prizes are available to Participants that post the best EV Charging photo and generate the most aggregate Facebook likes and Twitter re-tweets during the tour as well as for the most posts/updates to the Sun Country Highway Facebook page. All pictures and posts must be uploaded to the Sun Country Highway Facebook page to qualify. The photo should include the Participant driver, the vehicle and the EV Charger to qualify.

Notification of Winners:
Winners will be announced at the finish line in Vancouver, BC. Acceptance of the prize, as awarded, releases Sun Country Sustainability Fund from all liability relating to the Contest. No substitution or transfer of the Prize will be allowed.

Legal Disclaimer:
By participating, each Participant and the selected winner agrees: (a) to be bound by these Contest Rules and the decisions of Sun Country Sustainability Fund, (b) to release and hold harmless Sun Country Sustainability Fund, its affiliates, subsidiaries, and independent contractors, and their respective directors, officers, employees, agents and representatives including advertising and promotion agencies, from any and all liability for claims/damages including, but not limited to, claims/damages for personal injury, for property damage with respect to their vehicle including any wear and tear, to acceptance, possession or use or misuse of the Prize or participation in the Contest; (c) to permit Sun Country Sustainability Fund and Sun Country Highway to use the Participant’s name, address, city, province, of residence, photograph, video, or any likeness for advertising or publicity purposes without any additional compensation and (d) the winner agrees to sign a Declaration and Release Form to this effect.
The decisions of Sun Country Sustainability Fund in relation to this Contest will be final and binding on all Participants.
Sun Country Sustainability Fund shall not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription or registration of Contest entry information, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, faulty, incomplete, incomprehensible, or erased computer or network transmissions, line failures of any telephone network, failure of computer or EV charging equipment, software, smartphone app, inability to access any online service or web site, inability to submit the registration or entry form, or any other error or malfunction, or any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer, cellular phone, related to or resulting from their participation or downloading any materials in this Contest, or for late, lost, stolen, postage due, illegible or misdirected entries.
Sun Country Sustainability Fund reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or suspend this Contest, at its sole discretion, in the event of a technical failure, computer virus or bug, unauthorized human intervention, fraud or any other occurrence or cause beyond its control that corrupts or adversely affects the administration, security, fairness or normal operation of the Contest unless otherwise prohibited by laws.
Under no circumstances will Sun Country Sustainability Fund, its affiliates, subsidiaries, and independent contractors, and their respective directors, officers, employees, and agents, including advertising and promotion agencies, be required to award more Prizes than what is indicated in these Rules or award the Prizes other than in accordance with these Rules.

Règlements et objectifs de la E-mazing Race

Le principa­l commanditaire de cet évènement est Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec. La E-mazing Race est la célébration de l’infrastructure de recharge de Niveau 2 pour véhicules électriques la plus rapide au monde ainsi qu’une contribution au développement, environnemental, social et économique durable. Le but de la E-mazing Race est de démontrer les bénéfices des véhicules électriques, le réseau de recharge électrique Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec, les énergies renouvelables ainsi que la viabilité des transports alternatifs. Ce concours est le symbole d’une innovation canadienne et d’un leadership vers un tournant social, économique et environnemental. Les stations de recharges de Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec ont été mises en place dans l’objectif de compléter les sources d’énergie déjà existantes dans le domaine des transports, donner l’accessibilité aux propriétaires de véhicules électriques et permettre la conversion aux véhicules électriques.

De plus, la E-mazing Race a pour but de promouvoir et mobiliser les citoyens à ne pas avoir recours exclusivement à l’aide financière gouvernementale pour financer et déployer l’infrastructure des activités lies à l’usage et l’utilisation de véhicules électriques.

La E-mazing Race va démontrer qu’un petit groupe de gens passionnés ayant l’esprit entrepreneurial peut mener à terme la révolution du véhicule électrique de sorte que l’argent des contribuables puisse être utilisé dans d’autres programmes.

Règlements de l’E-Mazing Race

1. Déroulement du concours: Les participants de la E-mazing Race débuteront leur périple le TBD ou après cette date. L’évènement se conclut le (TBD) Summerside (IPE).Tous les participants doivent arriver à la ligne d’arrivée avant cette heure

2. Emplacements de départs : une équipe inscrite peut partir de partout en Amérique du Nord. Les cérémonies de départs à travers le Canada et les États-Unis (U.S.) sont inscrites ci-dessous et sujettes à changement. Veuillez consulter notre site internet pour les plus récentes mises à jour à l’adresse suivante; www.e-mazingrace.com. Nous encourageons nos participants à joindre d’autres participants à l’un ou l’autre de ces emplacements pour un départ en compagnie des médias avec découpe du ruban.

3. Départs décalés: Tous les véhicules débuteront la course à 5 minutes d’intervalle de chaque emplacement mentionné ci-dessus. Un tirage au sort parmi les numéros des participants déterminera les départs.
4. Admissibilité : Le concours pour la E-mazing Race est ouvert à quiconque possédant un véhicule électrique capable de se recharger à l’aide d’un adaptateur J1772. Les véhicules hybrides seront dans une autre classe de compétition avec d’autres véhicules du même type tel la Chevy Volt, la Toyota Prius et Via Motors VTRUX.
5. Bornes de recharge: Les premiers arrivés seront les premiers servis à la borne de recharge. Les participants conduisant des véhicules électriques uniquement auront priorité sur les véhicules hybrides aux bornes de recharge afin d’éviter l’engorgement. Ce règlement est essentiel à la partialité ainsi qu’au bon déroulement du concours! Nous vous remercions de votre coopération.
6. La sécurité avant tout : Outre le nom de l’évènement, la E-mazing Race n’est pas une course, il s’agit plutôt d’un rallye à travers le continent. Nous encourageons tous les participants à respecter le Code de la route ainsi que les lois appliquées aux voies publiques. La sécurité doit d’abord rester une priorité. Tout participant ayant une conduite dangereuse, un comportement irresponsable ou illégal sera immédiatement disqualifié.

7. L’obligation du participant : Il est de la responsabilité du participant d’assurer que le véhicule est enregistré et sécuritaire à circuler sur la voie publique dans toutes les provinces et/ou état où le concours à lieu. L’inspection technique de l’évènement ne peut établir si le véhicule est légal ou non sur la voie publique. Il est de responsabilité du conducteur et/ou de l’autorité juridique de s’assurer de ces détails. Une preuve d’assurance et d’immatriculation du gouvernement actuelle (avec des plaques d’immatriculation actuelles affichées (ou «tags temporaires») est nécessaire pour la validité de la participation dans tous les états et provinces où le concours a lieu.
8. Pointage et critères d’évaluations : Les participants seront jugés selon leur nombre d’enregistrements aux bornes de recharges. Chaque participant ayant le plus souvent effectué de “ZapTaps™” aux bornes de recharges Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec peut gagner le concours. Les points sont attribués aux participants ayant le plus de*(ZapTap) compilés aux bornes de recharge en utilisant leur (Near Field Communication) Code compatible NFC ou QR disponible en application sur les téléphones intelligents (numérisation HighWayx). Les points bonus seront annoncés sur le site internet de l’E-Mazing race mentionnant les endroits spécifiques à travers le Canada, restez branché pour les plus récentes mises à jour! Pour de plus amples informations sur le ’’Zap Tap™’’, veuillez consulter le site www.zaptap.com. Chaque participant doit s’enregistrer qu’une fois (1x) à chaque borne durant la course. L’enregistrement Zap Tap sera aussitôt inscrit identifiant ainsi chaque participant ayant visité les bornes de recharge pour véhicules Électriques.
9. Prix et récompenses : Les participants ayant fait le plus de kilométrage et s’étant enregistrés (Zap Tap) le plus souvent aux bornes de recharge pour véhicules électriques de Sun Country Highway/ Éco Route Québec vont pouvoir accumuler des points bonus. Ces points leur donnent la chance de gagner la course. Des prix seront aussi offerts aux concurrents qui auront publié la plus belle photo sur la page Facebook de Sun Country Highway. Les photos ayant généré le plus de ’’J’aime’’ sur Facebook et de ’’Re-Tweet’’ sur Twitter auront une chance de remporter cette catégorie de prix. Tous les images et messages doivent être téléchargés sur la page Facebook de Sun Country Highway pour se qualifier. La photo doit inclure le pilote, le véhicule et la borne de recharge pour véhicules électriques afin d’être éligible au concours.
10. Annonce des gagnants : Les gagnants seront annoncés à la ligne d’arrivée. Les participants doivent franchir la ligne d’arrivée pour être éligibles. Les gagnants doivent être présents à la ligne d’arrivée pour réclamer leur prix. Si le participant gagnant n’est pas présent lorsque son nom est annoncé pour réclamer son prix, le participant devra renoncer à son prix et n’aura aucun recours contre Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec ou toute personne impliquée dans le concours. Le prix doit être accepté tel que remis par Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec, aucune substitution ou échange de prix ne sera permis.
11. Responsabilité Légale : En participant, chaque concurrent et gagnant sélectionné accepte:(A) d’être lié par ces règles du concours et les décisions de Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec.(B) De libérer et d’exonérer Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec, ses sociétés affiliées, entrepreneurs indépendants, leurs administrateurs, dirigeants, employés, agents et représentants y compris les agences de publicité et de promotion, de toute responsabilité pour les réclamations / dommages compris, mais sans s’y limiter, les réclamations / dommages et intérêts pour préjudices corporels ou dommages à la propriété à l’égard de leur véhicule, y compris l’usure, à l’acceptation, la possession ou l’utilisation ou la mauvaise utilisation du prix ou de la participation au concours.(C) Afin de permettre Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec d’utiliser le nom du participant , adresse, ville , province de résidence, photographie, vidéo, ou tout ressemblance à des fins de publicité sans aucune rémunération supplémentaire.(D) Le gagnant s’engage à signer un formulaire de déclaration et d’exonération à cet effet. La décision prise par Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec en relation au concours est définitive et valable pour tous les participants. Sun Country Highway n’est pas responsable de la transcription incorrecte ou inexacte des informations relatives au concours, des défaillances techniques, omission, interruption, suppression, transmission retardée ou perte de donnés, défectuosité d’un ordinateur , mauvaise transmission, réseau téléphonique défaillant, la défaillance du matériel informatique, les bornes de recharges pour véhicules électriques, logiciel incompatible, ZapTap, l’incapacité d’accéder à un service en ligne ou un site web, l’incapacité à soumettre le formulaire d’inscription, toute autre erreur ou dysfonctionnement ou toute blessure, dommage au participant ou à l’ordinateur/téléphone de toute autre personne liée à ou découlant de leur participation ou du téléchargement de matériel dans ce concours. Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec se réserve le droit d’annuler, de terminer ou de suspendre le présent concours, à sa seule discrétion, dans le cas d’une défaillance technique, un virus ou un bogue informatique, une intervention humaine non autorisée, fraude ou tout autre événement, cause indépendante de sa volonté qui altère ou affecte l’administration, la sécurité, l’impartialité ou le fonctionnement normal du concours de façon illégale. En aucun cas, Sun Country Highway / Éco Route Québec, ses sociétés affiliées, ses filiales et ses entrepreneurs indépendants ainsi que leurs administrateurs, dirigeants, employés et agents, (y compris les agences de publicité et de promotion) seront tenus d’attribuer plus de prix que ce qui est indiqué dans le présent règlement et/ou d’attribuer le prix autrement qu’indiqué dans les règlements mentionnés dans ce document.
